Nervous Emotion Peg Doll, made by Our Backyard Studio.
We designed and painted a series of peg dolls for my 3rd grader with autism. We use them for emotion recognition, pretend play (acting out conversations consistent with the emotion), social skills practice, and just plain fun!
This is the NERVOUS doll, which is a "sick to your tummy" green color. For us, having a "nervous" doll was important to recognize, as the anxiety of nervousness would come and go unnoticed, and then transition into anger. All we then saw then was the anger, which is what we then focused on (unsurprisingly unsuccessfully most of the time). By learning to identify and deal with the nervousness, we began preventing the transition to anger.
Measures 1.5 inches in diameter. Painted with AP certified non-toxic paints, sealed with multiple coats of natural shellac to create a toy that will last! Painted to order, so each one will look slightly different.
This is a handmade item, not a reproduction. Your doll will made in the same manner as shown in photo, but will not be exact - the illustration, wood grain and knots, and free-hand lettering all result in a unique end product. If you like this face and color, but wish a different word than "nervous," we can paint a different word ("anxious?" "worried?") - just contact us!
