Silly Emotion Peg Doll, handmade in the USA!
We designed and painted a series of peg dolls for our 3rd grader with autism. We use them for emotion recognition, pretend play (acting out conversations consistent with the emotion), social skills practice, and just plain fun!
--This doll could mean something a little different to everyone. For us, it is the SILLY doll, and it is painted a bright orange, which is somewhere between a happy sunny yellow and a red hot anger or anxiety.
--Feeling silly, overly happy, a bit on the crazy side, was something important personally for us to identify, as it very quickly led to over-stimulation and meltdown. We talk a LOT about how to feel silliness and experience humor without "going crazy." For a child with ASD, this can be a very difficult balance, as it feels a lot like sitting on the fence between happiness and chaos. For you, this could be something different - maybe for you this doll is Joyful, Happy, Funny, etc.
