Burgundy Marble Small Colander Enamelware, by Crow Canyon. Enamelware is stainless steel coated with ceramic, fired at 1700 degrees. It is oven-safe, can be used on a stove-top or on a grill, is shatter-proof, and uniformly conducts heat for the best baking or cooking results. Available in a wide variety of pieces and colors. This is for the SMALL COLANDER in the Burgundy marble color, which is burgundy red and cream splatter (see detail photo for sample). Measures 9.5 inches in diameter, 4.75 inches high. Great for straining pasta, washing grapes, or as a fruit bowl!

Enamelware product info:

When enamelware is produced, it is fired at 1700 F, so it is quite safe to use in the oven and on the stovetop. But do NOT use enamelware in the microwave oven.

It is best to avoid using abrasive materials on enamel surfaces. Remove stains and burned-on grease with a soap-filled plastic scouring pad or sponge.

Be careful when using sharp-edged metal utensils to keep from scratching your items.

Do not allow enamelware items to boil dry when using them on the stovetop as that may damage the enamel surface.

Enamel on steel is hard and strong. But like all fine ceramic materials, enamelware will chip if dropped or handled too roughly. Chips affect appearance but not functionality. Items are still usable — there is no danger of lead or other materials leeching out of the items. The only drawback is that if not dried properly, you might see rust on pieces where chips have occurred. As a matter of fact, some manufacturers purposely distress enamelware to give it the look of antique pieces. Continued use of chipped pieces is an esthetic decision.

As with any dinnerware, some scratching and dulling of the surface is likely to occur over time.

If enamelware is left empty on a hot burner or in a heated oven, switch off the heat and allow the items to cool slightly before adding liquid.

It is best to empty and dry the tea kettles and coffee pots after use to prevent any possibility of rust. If you do experience a little rusting, place 2 tablespoons of baking soda and a squeeze of lemon juice into the item. Add water and bring to a boil. Let cool and wash thoroughly before using.
