Happy Emotion Peg Doll, handmade in the USA!
We designed and painted this series of peg dolls for our 3rd grader with autism. We use them for emotion recognition, pretend play (acting out conversations consistent with the emotion), social skills practice, and just plain fun!
EMOTIONS:
--Pink (Shy): For us, feeling shy would often express as anger. By learning to identify the feeling of shyness, and talking through what to do with that feeling, the anger began to subside.
--Red (Angry): Use to identify anger, work on developing healthy anger management practices, and learn to avoid destructive behaviors.
--Orange (Silly): Feeling silly often can lead to over-stimulation and meltdown, so we work on enjoying humor without "going crazy."
--Yellow (Happy): Express the emotion of feeling joyful and content.
--Green (Nervous): Learning to identify and process anxiety helps prevent the transition to anger/meltdowns.
--Blue (Sad): Puts a face to the feeling, helping with the discomfort of identifying what can be a painful emotion
--Purple (Loving): Helps us differentiate between feeling happy in general, and feeling happy in regards to someone you care about; as well as talking about appropriate boundaries, and expression of that emotion
--Black (Scared): Helps us to identify with fear, talk about what the doll is afraid of, and how the doll might choose to react to those fears.
--White (Surprised): For us, surprises were instant meltdown triggers. This doll helps recognize that unexpected things are just that - unexpected things, not necessarily good or bad! Kiddos can make up things that create surprises, and act out reactions.
